Yep, fondant.
When we made my wedding cakes we put fondant over it to cover it but it can be quite hard to get it to sit perfectly so over the top of the fondant we iced it with a textured look with royal icing (which we made from scratch).

that looks great! and royal icing sets really hard too, thats such a good idea! i agree esp on a hot day with regards to fondant.
people seem to want to touch a cake for some unknown reason. one of my friends made her cake with her mum, 2 tier loveheart with fondant covering it and coz it was so hot when it was touched/prodded, the indents were left in the cake fondant - really quite rude to even touch someones cake and it was quite annoying

No, fake flowers dipped in a paint type thing to give them a bit of a gloss and make them go stiff.

I am making a teletubbies cake today for a little 2 yr old boy
Its just a test run for the proper one which I will bake for this weekend for his birthday party - Id rather test run the decorating side to get it right before doing the proper one!

Just finished baking three batches of biscuits.
Lime and cranberry.
Rosewater and choc chip.
And triple choc.

Mum baked an awesome marble cake for my/her/dad's birthday. And then she put chocolate icing on it and I stacked on as many lollies as would fit lol. It's not very attractive...but very delicious.

Well.. I am making him a cake! Was going to make a rectangle cake, and ice it and put one of those edible icings on there of fireman sam, but the shop didnt have any.. instead I hired a cake tin in a firetruck shape, going to ice that up, hope it will be good!

Also going to try my hand at making a black forest cake as it is his fave... but cherries would probably be expensive right now... so I might make a variation of it? Just got to find a recipe

yeah.. was going to used ones in a jar.

However, I decided to have a trial.. total major epic fail!!! I had all the cheries and stuff made up, and waited for the cake to cool off, picked it up and it broke in half!!!

I am now back to square one and I have no idea what I am going to do!!!

a what? I know what black forest cake is, I know what trifle is... but I fail to see how the two can go together?

I had one left, which I iced (they are firetruck shaped) but turns out I am no good at icing!

And just found out he is expecting 20 people, which means I cant do a little one!

So I am thinking I might make a smallish black forest cake (and make 3 seperate rounds, rather than cutting it up) and maybe some cup cakes?

yeah i know - i made up the black forrest trifle. lol. it could possibly work. hehe.

i always think it's easier to make 2 or 3 smaller cakes than one big one that you cut in half. i have 2 matching round tins that i use for that very purpose.
